As with most institutionalised buildings in the UK, school buildings are subjected to little or no maintenance. They are often cold, draughty and pretty miserable places – or is that just how we remember them?
But seriously, regardless of whether the schools are listed buildings or just in need of renovation, improvements in energy efficiency and modernisation of schools is still high on the government agenda. As a contactor originally assigned to providing Windows for Schools as part of the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) incentive, Profix has been involved in undertaking some interesting renovation and new build projects over the years.
Tipton Learning Academy
As part of an ongoing major refurbishment of this historic school in Tipton, Profix were contracted to install PVCu Windows that needed to match the existing Georgian styles. All
windows contained solar controlled glass and where the windows were high level, remote opening fixtures were used.
As with most major renovations, a lot of planning was required to ensure Profix were able to successfully deliver on their part of the project. It required a lot of interaction with the other trades to make sure the windows were supplied and installed on a timely basis throughout each phase. And as with most school projects, access to the site was limited as the school was operational throughout.
