The Challenge

3,046
miles in 17 days
In September 2008 the Ride 4 Hope team will set off on a 17 day
journey across the USA from Oceanside near San Diego, California to
Atlantic City, New Jersey. This route has already been plotted via a
satellite navigation system showing every road and junction across
the route
The journey begins with a long climb on to the west side of the
Rockies reaching a peak of 11,000 feet in Cuchara, Colorado. During
this part of the ride the cyclists will have to suffer 20 mile climbs
and long days in the saddle. The route then takes the team across the
plains of the mid-West to St Louis.
From
here the route heads through Indianapolis and over the challenging
and steep Appalachian mountains to the destination of Atlantic City
where the team will be welcomed by friends and family
The following are some of the anticipated statistics for the ride:
- 3,046
miles in 17 days
- average
daily distance approximately 200 miles
- longest
day 270 miles
- each
rider burns 3500 calories per day
- each
rider will make 25,000 pedal turns per day
- each
rider will spend 7 hours per day in the saddle
- highest
point: 11,000ft above sea level (Cuchara, Colorado)

Donate online and claim Gift Aid
Under the Gift Aid scheme, charities can reclaim an
extra 25% in tax on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
Between 6 April 2008 and 5 April 2011, the government will also
give UK charities an extra 3% of all eligible donations. This
'transitional relief' does not affect your personal tax position.
Unfortunately, charities often miss out on this extra
income because it is too expensive to process the paperwork on
small donations. Because GM Fundraising use Justgiving
we've solved this problem by automating the process of Gift Aid
reclaim so that every £1 donation is worth more, and costs less to
administer, for Hope House. The processes have been audited and
approved by HMRC.
