Recently Profix attended the East Durham Homes Annual General meeting to meet residents and offer support to the organisation and the construction partners. The event was a great success allowing residents to meet the manufactures behind the supply chain and provide valuable feedback on the partnership. Profix get actively involved with this type of support and also gives presentation of product and service as part a scheme proposal or bid supporting the Main Contractor and Landlord.

    A touch of colour
    MTEC

Need a coloured product? There is an alternative to aluminium. Profix have just completed a refurbishment of the Coach House in Hayden Hill Glous for M-Tex developments. The project incorporated the installation of 42 PVCu windows with an external ivory finish while maintaining the standard white inside. The performance was enhanced with Plani- Therm glass with decorative lead finish to maintain the aesthetics of the original building. This method can also be used in commercial applications such as offices and warehouses and offers considerable saving over aluminium while giving the performance of PVCu.

During recent test the technical team engineered a new window based on the Profix trade window with a view to reduce the cost of a security accredited product. With the help of the supply chain partners a range of hardware and improved reinforcing rules gained Profix a revised BS7950 security kitemark accreditation on the standard product. This investment will give massive saving to users of the security product and has rationalised the hardware range through the supply chain giving further savings.

    Grey is the New Black
    Gasket

Profix has introduced a new grey weatherseal that has been designed specifically for their 2800 Series product range. The grey gasket is the result of over twelve months extensive research in close collaboration with both the supplier and their customers. The outcome is an innovative weatherseal that is far less intrusive thanks to the improved positioning and new ‘invisible’ grey colour, giving more glass appearance to the window. The gasket is rolled in as part of the extrusion process, which ensures consistent quality and reduces fabrication time. Manufactured from thermoplastic elastomers – a mixture of rubber and thermoplastic particles – the weatherseal is extremely high performing and is totally weldable. Deceuninck’s Fenestration Product Manager, Stefaan Valette stated, “Deceuninck Group have a constant policy to continually innovative with leading products. The grey weatherseal follows the trend towards softer finishes and works well with the new warmer white colour adopted by the 3000 Series. Whilst aesthetically pleasing, the weathseal is a high performing, technically advanced product and its fatigue and dynamic properties can cope with a wide temperature range of between –20ºc up to 50ºc. ” The grey weatherseal is available on white and light foil products with a traditional black gasket being used on dark foils.

    Profix gains CHAS Accreditation
    CHAS

As part of the Profix commitment to development of the business and the practices it adopts the company recently was accredited into the Contracts Health & Safety Assessment Scheme. The purpose of the CHAS scheme is to provide assessment criteria that health and safety professionals (or other officers/consultants acting on behalf of an organisation) can apply to the health and safety element of a select list application. The scheme assesses adequacy and compliance of the health and safety policy statement, organisation for health and safety and specific arrangements to a single, common standard acceptable to CHAS members and users. Selecting contractors who have demonstrated these standards goes some way to ensuring, so far is reasonably practicable, compliance with health and safety law. Clearly, participation in the CHAS Scheme and applying its standards to the pre-qualification process for selection of contractors will address a number of issues for both employers and the companies whose policy and arrangements are being assessed, namely: • provide an initial element of compliance with health and safety law (to assess competence); • avoid duplication of effort for both employers when assessing applications and companies making multiple submissions; • overcome inconsistency in assessment with some companies being assessed as compliant by one employer but not others
